BECKER, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's golf team shot 31-over-par 319 in the second round of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship at Pebble Creek Golf Club on Friday.
The Yellowjackets sit eight strokes off the lead in second place overall with a two-day total of 50-over 626. Bethany Lutheran (42-over 618) continues to lead in the team standings heading into the final day on the 6,872-yard, par-72 course.
Sophomore Cody Stanisisch slipped two spots on the individual leaderboard with a 7-over 79 on Friday. Stanisich birdied the par-3 17th hole and recorded 11 pars on the day.
Freshman
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) turned the Yellowjackets' top round of the day at 77 to move up into a tie for 14th with a two-round 158 total. He posted birdies on Nos. 1 and 11 and nine pars. Classmate
Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) is tied for ninth at 12-over 156. He carded 79 in the second round on the strength of three birdies – including two on the back nine – and eight pars. He birdied the par-5 fifth and 14th holes as well as the par-4 11th.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot 84 for 159. Albrecht is 16th overall heading into the final day. He birdied the 11th and collected six pars.
Sophomore
Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) matched his opening-round 86 with another Friday. Burger sits 30th overall.
Northwestern is third place in the team standings at 57-over 633 after shooting the best team round of the day at 315. North Central is one shot behind the Rams in fourth. BLC's Nick Hansen shot 79 in the second round and holds a one-stroke advantage over Ben Long of North Central at 7-over 150 in the medalist race.
Superior tees off in the final round at 11:20 a.m., on Saturday.
