DULUTH, Minn. – For the first time in eight seasons, the UW-Superior women's hockey team has won its first three games to start the season.

The Yellowjackets never trailed en route to a 3-2 victory over bridge rival St. Scholastica at Mars Lakeview Arena on Tuesday.

Freshman forward
Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) scored the game-winning goal on a power-play rebound at 13:33 of the second period and the two teams played a scoreless final 20 minutes as Superior cemented the win. Seniors
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) and
Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) assisted on Booth's winner, her second goal of the season.

UWS opened the 2013-14 season sweeping Hamline at home and winning the first of two at Gustavus Adolphus to begin 3-0-0. The victory over the Saints is the third consecutive in the series, matching Superior's longest streak in the in the 20 games played against CSS since that program  began in 2010.

UWS held advantages of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, getting goals from three different skaters and 26 saves from senior goaltender

Tessa Jorde (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) got the 'Jackets on the board first, scoring her first of the season just over a minute into the contest. Freshman
Halle Fields (Andover, Minn./Andover) and senior
Jenna Byfuglien (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) assisted on the play. St. Scholastica (0-1-0) tied the game as Lauryn Hull poked the puck away from a UWS player at the offensive Saints' blue line and skated in alone on Whalen, beating her on the glove side at 7:01 of the first period.

Sophomore
Avery Schwark (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) then banged home the rebound of a Booth shot to give her team a 2-1 lead at 13:45 of the period for her first of the year.

The Saints' Rachel Anderson knotted the game at 2-2 at the mark 3:12 of the second, cutting to the net and shooting back against the grain, prior to Booth's winner 10 minutes later. Whalen made it stand making 18 saves over the final two periods. St. Scholastica's Lori Huseby stopped 30 shots in a losing effort.

UWS went 1-for-2 on the power play while holding CSS scoreless on five extra-skater opportunities with just one shot against.

Next up, Superior hosts Hamline on Friday at Wessman Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
