STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point's Gina Magro scored 8:19 into the second period to break a 1-1 tie and the Pointers held on for a 2-1 victory over the UW-Superior women's hockey team in WIAC action at Ice Hawks Arena on Saturday.
Senior forward
Agnese Apsite (Dreilini, Latvia/Riga Distance Secondary) took over the team lead with her six goal of the season with 2:04 remaining in the first period to knot the game at 1-1. Sophomore
Andrea Stelling (Sioux Falls, S.D./Eaton Rapids (Mich.)) assisted on the goal that came just 2:36 after the Pointers opened the scoring.
Dani Heitsman scored at 15:20 of the first from Bella Moskonas to give UWSP the lead.
Magro's game-winning goal was assisted by Mary Kremer and gave the Pointers (3-5-0, 1-1-0) their first WIAC win of the season.
UWS (4-3-0, 1-2-0) peppered UWSP goaltender Olivia Schultz with 47 shots. She made 46 saves, including 24 in the third period.
Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) got the start in the Yellowjackets' net, making 23 stops, while taking the loss.
The teams were unsuccessful on a combined five power play in the game. UWS went 0-for-3 with an extra skater with seven power-play shots.
Jenna Curtis (Webster, Wis./Webster) led the 'Jackets with five shots on goal on the day.
