SUPERIOR, Wis. – Freshman
Allie Zimmer (Waconia, Minn./Waconia) knocked down a 3-pointer on an assist from
Kaelyn Christian (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) to tie the game, 44-44, with 35 seconds remaining in the third quarter, but Saint Benedict outscored the UW-Superior women's basketball team, 15-10, in the fourth for a 61-54 victory at Mertz Mortorelli Gym on Tuesday.

Zimmer's triple tied the game for the first time since it was 12-12 late in the first quarter. The Bennies scored on the next possession, taking a 46-44 advantage into the final period. St. Benedict opened a six-point, 50-44, advantage with a Madison Doran jumper two minutes into the fourth before another Zimmer 3, assisted by
Brianna O'Donnell (Richfield, Minn./Richfield), pulled the 'Jackets to within 50-47 with 6:20 to play.Â

Sam Parendo (Proctor, Minn./Proctor) hit a jumper two minutes later as UWS trailed by just one at 52-51 when CSB used a 7-1 run for to put the game out of reach with one minute remaining.

The Bennies held a 32-25 edge at halftime and allowed Superior to creep back into the game with a 19-point third quarter.

Zimmer and O'Donnell paced the 'Jackets with 10 points apiece, while junior
Kaija Davies (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. UWS held a 41-39 advantage on the glass and shot 29 percent from the field, compared to 41.5 percent for St. Benedict.

CSB (4-0) put three players in double figures, led by Carla Meter with 18 points. Lydia Hay pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds for the Bennies.

Superior (1-4) is back in action at home next Tuesday against Simpson. Tip time at Mortorelli Gym is set for 7 p.m.
