SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's hockey team scored five unanswered goals and freshman
Reed Stark (Suffern, N.Y./Douglas County West) posted two goals and an assist to beat St. Scholastica, 5-1, and take the consolation game of the 2021 Superior Showdown Presented by Subway at Wessman Arena on Friday.

St. Scholastica scored the game's first goal at 11:47 of the first period off the stick of Karl Wright before Superior (7-4-2) exploded for three goals in the second and two more in the third to earn its second win of the season over the Saints.

Stark tied the game at 3:11 of the second with his fourth of the season from
Gavin Rasmussen (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior), who himself scored 3:30 later to make it 2-1. Rassmussen's goal, assisted by
C.J. Walker (Boise, Idaho/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame), was third of the season.

With Will Fisher off for holding, Walker banged home a power-play goal from Stark and
Artur Terchiyev (Kiev, Ukraine/Everest Academy) with just 12 seconds to play in the period to make it 3-1.

Austin Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Glenlawn Collegiate School) and Stark added goals in the third as the 'Jackets salted away the victory, their third in the four-year history of the tournament.

UWS went 1-for-2 on the power play and held CSS scoreless in the Saints' five opportunities.

Myles Hektor (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) improved to 4-3-1 in the UWS net, making 22 saves on 23 shots. Oliver Quinn stopped 26 shots, including 12 in the third period, falling to 0-2-0 on the season. St. Scholastica dropped to 6-5-1 overall on the year.

The Yellowjackets are back in action at Saint John's on Jan. 6. Puck drop at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center is set for 7 p.m.
