SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's soccer team earned a 2-0 exhibition victory over Northland at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex Tuesday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets got goals five minutes apart early in the second half and senior goalkeeper
Morgan Philliber (Apple Valley, Minn./Edina) made them stand up, collecting two saves for the clean sheet.
After a scoreless first half in which UWS outshot Northland, 3-1, the 'Jackets made it 1-0 on an unassisted goal from
Emma Street (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis) in the 56th minute. Off of a set piece, Street corralled a loose ball and hit it off the far post and past LumberJills' goalkeeper Abby Wilson.
Claire Smith (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) doubled the lead when she took a feed from
Annah Schussman (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and found the back of the net in the 61st minute.
Superior outshot Northland, 9-2, in the match and had six corner kicks to Northland's two.
Wilson made seven saves in the nets for Northland.
The 'Jackets open the regular season Saturday when they host Martin Luther in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at NBC Spartan Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
