Final-Round 305 Ties Yellowjackets for Fourth at Midwest Region Classic

GALENA, Ill. – The UW-Superior men's golf team charged up the leaderboard in the final round of the Midwest Region Classic at Eagle Ridge Resort on Sunday, firing a 17-over-par 305, its best team round of the season, to tie for fourth overall in the 24-team event.
 
The Yellowjackets were ninth after an opening-round 324 on the on the 6,884-yard, par-72 north course and used rounds of 3-over-par 75 from sophomores Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) as well as a 76 from senior Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) in Sunday's final round on the 6,762-yard, par-72 south course.
 
Stanisich tied for ninth overall individually, posting 79 Friday with an 8-over 152 tally on the weekend. Burger tied for 27th, shaving nine strokes off an opening 84 to close at 15-over 159.
 
Freshman Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) tied for 31st with rounds of 79 and 81 for 16-over-par 160 while Albrecht finished one stroke behind, tied for 35th with junior Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl), who paced Yellowjackets' B team with 161.
 
Freshman Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) shot a final-round 79, jumping 11 places after he opened with 84. Frazee finished tied for 45th at 163, rounding out Superior's top five-player team.
 
The 'Jackets' B team finished 14th overall at 46-over 668. Sophomore T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) tied for 42nd at 18-over 162. He shot 79 on Friday to open the tournament. Freshman Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) closed with 81 to finish tied for 86th with 172. Classmates Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) and Matt Nault (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) were shot 175 and 181 for ties for 97th and 111th, respectively.
 
Edgewood won the team title by 19 strokes over Dubuque with rounds of 305 and 295 for 600. Wartburg (312-308-620) was third. Illinois College tied UWS at 317-312-329.
 
Edgewood's Jake Schroeckenthaler won medalist honors, shooting 3-under-par 141. He topped teammate Matthew Davidson by eight strokes for the individual crown.
 
The Yellowjackets are back in action Saturday and Sunday at the SJU Fall Invitational at St. Cloud Country Club and Blackberry Ridge Golf Club. Tee times are noon for the first round and 9 a.m. for the final round.
