ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Freshman
Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) shot 5-over-par 77 to lead the UW-Superior men's golf team in the opening round of the SJU Fall Invitational at St. Cloud Country Club on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets carded 28-over 316 to tie for ninth overall on the 6,676-yard, par-72 course. Frazee's season-low round featured a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole to go with 12 pars. He is tied for 25th overall going into Sunday's final round.
Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior), the reigning UMAC Player of the Week, is one stroke behind Frazee after a 78 in a tie for 27th. Stanisich birdied the par-4 14th and shot par on 11 holes.
Freshman
Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) shot 8-over 80 with four birdies and four pars. He was tripped up, though, with double bogeys on both 17 and 18, and is tied for 36th.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot 81 to tie for 38th overall. He birdied the fourth hole and collected 10 pars in his round.
Freshman
Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) shot 85 and sits tied for 54th.
Tournament-host Saint John's fired a 3-under 285 to hold the team lead by six strokes over second-place Bethel. Carleton (12-over-par 300) is third. Casey Parker of St. Olaf and the Johnnies' Nate Loxtercamp are tied the individual lead at 4-under 68.
The tournament concludes at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club in Sartell, Minn., on Sunday. The Yellowjackets tee off beginning at 9:50 a.m.
