ASHLAND, Wis. – Senior
Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) scored two goals and an assist and goalkeepers
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and
Payton Anderson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) combined to shut out Northland, 3-0, at Ponzio Stadium on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets scored all three goals in an 11-minute span in the first half while Paredes and Anderson made five saves to pitch the first shutout of the season in the UWS goal.
Senior
Protus Babaya (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) opened the scoring in the 16th minute with his third goal of the season on a feed from Doyea. Babaya finished off the play low to the right of Northland's Jamie Colvill.
Just two minutes later, Doyea scored his second of the year from freshman
Josh Bellamy (High Wycombe, England/FAB Football Academy) low to the left of Colvill.
Freshman
Harry Ambler (Reading, England/Little Heath School) tallied his first collegiate goal in the 27th minute with Doyea getting credit for his second assist of the match.
The Yellowjackets held 68 percent of the possession on the day and limited the LumberJacks to just total six shots, all of which came in the second half. Superior led, 11-5, in shots on goal and 19-3 in corner kicks.
Paredes improved to 2-2-0 making two stops in the first 61 minutes before being relieved by Anderson. Colvill (1-4-0) came up with eight saves for Northland.
With the win the Yellowjackets sweep the regular-season season series with the 'Jacks and improve to 2-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the UMAC. Northland drops to 1-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the league in the loss.
UWS hosts UW-Eau Claire – in its first season as a varsity program – Sunday. Kickoff at NBC Spartan Sports Complex is set for 2 p.m.
