SARTELL, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's golf team climbed two spots on the leaderboard with a final-round 35-over-par 316 to finish tied for seventh in the SJU Fall Invitational on Sunday.
Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior), tied for 24th overall to pace the Yellowjackets, closing with a 7-over 79. He shot 13-over 157 for the tournament, which shifted to the 6,992-yard Blackberry Ridge Golf Club for the final round. As a team, Superior was 63-over 639 on the weekend, tying with St. Olaf.
Stanisich posted consecutive birdies on the seventh and eighth holes as well as tallying a birdie on the 562-yard par-5 10th on Sunday.
Sophomore
Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) matched his 80 at St. Cloud Country Club Saturday with another Sunday at Blackberry Ridge to tie for 35th overall. Burger birdied the eighth, ninth and 12th holes to go with seven pars in the final round.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) carded an 81 to finish 39th at 17-over 161 for the tournament. He registered 11 pars on the day.
Freshman
Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods), who led UWS with 77 Saturday, shot 86 to finish tied for 40th at 19-over 163. Classmate
Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) shaved one stroke off of his opening 85 to place in a tie for 53rd at 25-over 169.
Tournament-host Saint John's (4-over 580) fired a 7-over 295 on Sunday to claim the team title, winning by 29 over both Bethel and the Johnnies' third team in the event. SJU's Nate Loxtercamp (3-under 141) finished with 73 to win medalist honors by four strokes over teammates Thomas Gutzmer and Glavine Schugel.
Superior is back in action Wednesday at the North Central Invitational at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.
