RAMSEY, Minn. – Freshman
Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) shot a 6-over-par 78 to lead the UW-Superior men's golf team in the opening round of the Twin Cities Classic at The Links at Northfork Golf Club on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets shot 37-over 325 as a team and are 19th overall.
Frazee birdied the 10th and 14th holes – both par 5s – on the 6,989-yard, par-72 layout. He added nine pars on his day and is tied for 63rd place.
Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot 79 with birdies on the par-5 first and 10th to go with eight pars. He is tied for 72nd overall.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) carded 10-over 82, tying for 91st. He also birdied the 525-yard first hole and collected eight pars on his round.
Sophomore
Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) shot 86 with seven pars. Wainio is tied for 107th overall.
Freshman
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) shot 16-over 88 to round out the Yellowjackets' five-player team. Willard birdied the first and par-5 14th holes and recorded four pars. He is tied for 111th overall.
Saint John's fired a 4-pver 292 to lead by one stroke over the UW-Eau Claire 'B' team. Concordia (Minn.) is third at 7-over 295. UW-Stout's Austin Gaby blistered the course with a 7-under-par 65 for the individual lead heading into the second round. Mason Opheim of Concordia and Blake Schuler of St. John's are tied for second at 3-under par.
The tournament shifts to Elk River Country Club Sunday with tee times starting at 10:15 a.m.
