SUPERIOR, Wis. – Friday afternoon the Yellowjacket men's soccer team saw its 35-game UMAC winning streak come to an end, as Bethany Lutheran got a couple of late breaks and downed Superior in overtime.
 
With a quick turnaround, the 'Jackets didn't have to wait long in seeking redemption, and in the process start a new winning streak. Saturday afternoon they played host to Martin Luther, and the Knights got off the bus and walked right into a buzz saw at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
 
The Yellowjackets opened the scoring in the first minute of play, scored four goals in each half and thoroughly dominated every aspect of the match on the way to an 8-0 rout of Martin Luther.
 
Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) and Nicolai Stokker (Klokkarstua, Norway/St. Hallvard) paced the Yellowjackets (3-5-0, 3-1-0 UMAC) offensively, each scoring twice. For Perry, the two goals give him 43 in his career, tying him with Eric Watson for the most all-time in program history.
 
It was Perry who got the scoring started for the Yellowjackets, using his right foot to pound the ball past the Martin Luther goalkeeper just 31 seconds into the match, making it 1-0 Yellowjackets. Stokker and Mackie Ringrose (Ewhurst, England/St Peter's Catholic School) earned the assists.
 
In the 24th minute the Yellowjackets extended the lead on a Josh Bellamy (High Wycombe, England/FAB Football Academy) goal. The freshman let a kick go from the right side of the box that eluded Martin Luther goalkeeper Michael Friesenegger up high to make it 2-0.
 
Perry struck again just over 10 minutes later, scoring from the box into the lower left corner for his second of the match and fourth of the year. Karsten Kletti (Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake Area) assisted on the goal to give the Yellowjackets a three-goal lead.
 
Then with just over five minutes to play in the first half, Andy Rowland (Andover, Minn./Andover) scored a beautiful goal, firing a rocket from 30 yards out, beating Friesenegger up high to make it 4-0.
 
Stokker got in on the act with a pair of goals in quick succession early in the second half. He found the back of the net in the 54th minute and then added another in the 58th minute to push the lead to 6-0. Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) assisted on both markers.
 
In the 62nd minute the Yellowjackets struck again. This time Rowland made a play to get the ball into the goal area and Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) finished it, chipping it past the outstretched Martin Luther goalkeeper to make it 7-0.
 
Then, with less than 10 minutes to play in the match the Yellowjackets closed out the scoring. Archie Gjerdrum (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) got the ball in tight and scored into the lower left corner of the goal, picking up his second of the year and making the final score 8-0.
 
The Yellowjackets attempted 28 shots and finished the day with 12 shots on goal. Stokker led the way with four shots on goal, while Perry had two.
 
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) got the start in goal and played the first 61:34 of the match, making one save. He gave way to Payton Anderson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing), who also made one save in 28:26 of play.
 
The Yellowjackets return to the pitch Friday, Oct. 1 when they host Crown College. The opening kick is set for 2 p.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
