Yellowjackets Move to 18th in Second Round of Twin Cities Classic

ELK RIVER, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's golf team shaved 10 strokes off of its opening-round score, shooting 27-over-par 315 Sunday in the second round of the Twin Cities Classic at Elk River Country Club.
 
Sophomore Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) paced the Yellowjackets individually with a 3-over 75 on the 6,560-yard, par-72 course in the second round. UWS sits 18th overall at 64-over 640 through 36 holes. 
 
Stanisich posted five birdies on his round. Superior started Sunday on the back nine with Stanisich scoring nothing worse than bogey until consecutive doubles on the par-5 sixth and seventh holes. Stanisich birdied the eighth, ninth, 12th, 13th and 16th holes on the day, tying for 44th at 10-over 154.
 
Freshman Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) put up the Yellowjackets' next best round, a season-best 79, with birdies on Nos. 14 and 17. Willard is tied for 102nd at 23-over 167. Classmate Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) followed his opening-round 78 with 80 to tie for 68th overall. Frazee recorded birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to go with eight pars.
 
Sophomore Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) shot 81, tying with Willard for 102nd. He birded the 14th and added nine pars.
 
Senior Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) matched his first-round 82 with another on Sunday. Albrecht birdied the par-4 13th hole and tallied seven pars to tie for 94th overall. 
 
Saint John's continues to lead the tournament, shooting 9-over 297 on Sunday. The Johnnies (589) hold a two-stroke advantage over Luther. Carthage (596) made the biggest move on the day, jumping five places on the leaderboard with a 7-over 295 and is third
 
SJU's Glavine Schugel took over the individual lead from UW-Stout's Austin Gaby with 71 Sunday. Schugel (71-69-140) has a two-shot edge over Gaby.
 
The final round is slated to begin at 11 a.m., on Monday at Wayzata
