WAYZATA, Minn. – Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) climbed 18 places on the leaderboard in the final round of the Twin Cities Classic on Monday, shooting 5-over-par 77 at Wayzata Country Club.
Stanisich began the final round in a tie for 44th place and by the end of the day was tied for 26th overall in the 120-golfer field at 15-over-par 231 for the tournament. As a team, the Yellowjackets shot 43-over 331 on the 7,116-yard, par-72 course, finishing 18th with a three-round total of 971.
After a bogey to open the day on the par-4 11th hole, Stanisich birdied two of the next three, including the par-5 12th and par-4 14th holes. Following three bogeys, he parred the 18th and posted six more pars on the font prior to closing with a birdie of the par-4 10th.
Freshman
Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) shot a final-round 82 for 24-over 240 for the tournament, tying for 70th. He birdied the par-5 sixth and collected eight pars on the day. Classmate
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) shot 85, finishing in a tie for 102nd overall at 36-over 252. Willard also birdied the 528-yard sixth hole while picking up seven pars.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot 87 on Monday to tie for 98th overall at 35-over 251. Albrecht recorded five pars in his final round.
Sophomore
Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) rounded out the Superior five-player team with a 92 to finish tied for 106th at 43-over 259.
No. 20 St. John's (292-297-299-888) won the team title by 15 strokes over second-place Luther. UW-Eau Claire (45-over 909) was third. The Johnnies' Glavine Schugel was individual medalist going 1-under 215 for the tournament to top Mason Opheim of Concordia (Minn.) by four shots.
The Yellowjackets return to action in two one-round events this weekend. Bethany Lutheran hosts the Viking Cup at Crow River Golf Club Friday while Martin Luther hosts the MLC Invitational Saturday at Oakdale Golf Club.
