Men’s Golf Tied for Seventh after First Round at Augsburg Invite

HAM LAKE, Minn. – Sophomore Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) leads the UW-Superior men's golf team after the opening round of the Augsburg Invitational at Majestic Oaks Golf Club with a 4-over-par 76 to tie for 12th overall on Saturday.
 
Burger paced the Yellowjackets with two birdies on the front nine and to go with 11 pars on the 6,675-yard, par-72 course. UWS is tied for seventh overall with Macalester in the 18th-team field at 26-over 314.
 
Junior Charles Martin (Blainville, Quebec/École internationale Lucille-Teasdale) carded a 6-over 78 and is tied for 25th. Martin posted a pair of birdies and 10 pars on his round. Sophomore Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) and freshman Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) each turned in rounds of 8-over 80 to tie for 37th overall. Stanisich birdied the par-5 first hole and Tyman registered consecutive birdies on the par-3 15th and par-5 16th holes. 
 
Senior Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) rounded out Superior's top team with an 84 to tie for 71st overall at 12-over par. 
 
Freshman Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) led the 'Jackets' 'B' team with a 9-over 81 to tie for 46th with nine pars on his day. Classmate Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) shot 82 to tie for 54th overall. He came up with a birdie on the par-4 third.
 
Junior Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) shot 11-over 83 for 64th, tallying birdies on the par-4 11th and 18th holes.
 
Sophomore T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) shot 16-over 88 for 83rd place while freshman Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) was one shot back of Sitek in 88th.
 
Saint John's boasts a one-shot lead over Gustavus Adolphus atop the leaderboard. The Johnnies fired 14-over-par 302. The Gusties' Wyatt Wasko is two shots up on Loxtercamp of SJU, shooting 2-under 70 for the individual lead through 18 holes.
 
The tournament concludes Sunday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
