GRINNELL, Iowa – The scene shifted to Grinnell's Darby Gym Saturday where the UW-Superior volleyball team took on the host Pioneers and Cornell on the second day of Central/Grinnell Tournament with the Yellowjackets falling to both, 3-0.

Superior returns home Friday and Saturday to host the Subway Stinger Classic against Northland and Nebraska Wesleyan Friday and Concordia (Minn.) and Macalester on Saturday.Â

Against Grinnell,
Alexie Pryd (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove Senior) posted a team-high six kills with five digs, while
Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley) had five kills and a team-leading eight digs in the Yellowjackets' 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 defeat. Grinnell outhit the 'Jackets, .252-0.47, with 43 kills to 18. The Pioneers also led in digs, 49-34, and had nine service aces to four for Superior.

Grinnell jumped out to a 12-5 advantage in the first set before UWS scored four straight points to close to within 12-9 when Pryd and
Kaylin Plautz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) combined for a block. A Pryd kill along with a block – this time along with
Jordyn O'Brien (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) – pulled the 'Jackets to within 16-13 and an attack error got them one closer. Up, 19-17, Grinnell won the final six points of the set for a 1-0 lead in the match.

Superior held three separate leads in the middle stanza used a six-point run the middle of the set to take control at 19-14. Teff punctuated a 4-2 run with an ace, slicing the edge to 21-18, but that was as close as it got as MalainaMiles closed the set with a kill and five-point victory.

Grinnell engineered a 7-1 stretch to take a 13-7 edge, closing the run with another Miles kill, in the third set. Leading 15-11 the Pioneers put the match away, winning 10 of the final 13 points.

Teff, Plautz and
Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) paced UWS with five, four and four kills, respectively, against Cornell in a 25-11, 27-25, 25-17 loss. The Rams held Superior to a 0.20 attack percentage with 21 total kills and 19 errors.
Hailey Atwood (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) and
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) tallied double-digit digs with 21 and 10, leading the defensive effort.

The 'Jackets bounced back in the second set with a 7-0 string to a take an 11-8 lead. The run included kills from Teff and Plautz as well as a block from Plautz and Stark. Cornell came back with 9-of-12 points to retake a 17-14 edge. Later, a kill by Stark and
Megan Holz (Savage, Minn./Burnsville Senior) ace gave Superior set point at 25-24, but Rams rallied for the last three points to take the set.

Cornell never trailed the final set, and used a 7-1 run midway through to open a 21-14 advantage and cruised to the match win.
