BECKER, Minn. – Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot a collegiate-career-low 5-over-par 77 to lead the UW-Superior men's golf team to a second-place finish at the UMAC Preview Monday at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
Stanisich was third overall on the 6,872-yard, par-72 course, helping the Yellowjackets shoot 35-over-par 323 as a team. UWS finished five strokes behind North Central for the team title, marking the first time since 2018 Superior has not won the event.
Stanisich posted birdies on the par-4 11th and 13th holes to go with 10 pars. He was seven shots off the individual lead, besting his freshman-season low by one shot. He fired 78 to finish tied for eighth at the MLC Invitational on April 22.
Freshman
Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) shot 8-over 80 to finish tied for eighth overall, playing as an individual, on Monday.
Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) tied for ninth with a 9-over 81, carding consecutive birdies on 11 as well as the par-3 12th hole. Sophomore
T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was one stroke behind Albrecht, tying for 14th. Sitek, playing as an individual, tallied 11 pars on his round.
Freshmen
Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) along with junior
Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) tied for 19th with rounds of 12-over-par 84. Burger birdied the par-4 third and par-5 fifth holes.
Freshman
Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) tied for 26th with an 87, while junior
Charles Martin (Blainville, Quebec/École internationale Lucille-Teasdale) tied for 31st with 90. Freshman
Matt Nault (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and junior
Myles Hektor (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) rounded out the UWS competitors with 91 and 95, respectively.
Brady Raph of Minnesota Morris took medalist honors with a 2-under-par 70, four strokes clear of North Central's Tucker Crowson in second.
Superior is back in action at the Midwest Classic in Galena, Ill., Friday and Saturday. Action gets underway Friday at 11:30 a.m., at Eagle Ridge Resort.
