ASHLAND, Wis. – Four players scored at least nine points apiece to help the UW-Superior women's basketball team to a 74-52 road victory at Northland in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference player on Wednesday.

The Yellowjackets got 11 points from sophomore
Sam Parendo (Proctor, Minn./Proctor) and 10 more from freshman
Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek) to lead the way in the Yellowjackets' 19th consecutive win over the LumberJills. With the win, UWS 4-12, 3-4 UMAC) is now 37-19 against Northland since the 1982-83 season.

Superior outscored Northland in each of the first tree quarters on the night, and shot 43.1 for the game. UWS blistered the nets in the first and third quarters particularly, shooting 64.3 and 76.9 percent, respectively.

UWS committed just 14 turnovers in the contest, its second fewest of the season, while forcing 26 Northland miscues. The 'Jackets also received 34 points from their bench. Sixteen different players saw the court on the night, and 13 scored points.  Â

Besonen her team ahead for good just 1:25 into the contest when she hit a pair of free throws for a 6-5 advantage. Later
Allie Zimmer (Waconia, Minn./Waconia) and Parendo hit a pair of 3-pointers, sandwiching a Northland free throw to push the lead to 17-10 with less than three minutes left in the first quarter. UWS led, 26-12, after one, 42-22 at halftime and 68-38 heading into the fourth.

Northland (1-12, 0-7 UMAC) outscored UWS 14-6 in the final stanza, but it was too little too late as Superior coasted to the win.

The same teams meet again Saturday, this time in Superior. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium for Alumnae Day.Â
