MANKATO, Minn. -- Three players tallied double-figure kills as the UW-Superior earned its sixth sweep of the season with a 25-12, 26-24, 25-21 victory over Bethany Lutheran at North Gym on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets took just 68 minutes to move to 13-9 overall and 9-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, picking up their 11th win in the last 14 matches.
Senior Alex Pryd led all players with 12 kills, and senior
Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley) and sophomore
Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) added 10 apiece. Teff added 14 assists and 12 digs for a triple-double. Pryd had 11 digs to complete a double-double of her own.
UWS hit .242 with 46 kills and 17 errors in 120 attacks for the match, including .407 in the opening set. That stanza featured 14 kills and just three errors, helping UWS earn the 13-point victory. The 'Jackets owned a 15-3 lead before BLC could gain momentum.
Superior limited the Vikings (6-15, 4-6 UMAC) to an .080 attack efficiency and had a 59-49 led in digs on the day. Sophomore
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) had a match-high-tying 18.
Knotted at 4-4 in the second set, UWS used a 7-0 run to take an 11-4 advantage. Stark had three kills and Pryd one in the stretch. Bethany Lutheran responded with five straight points to cut its deficit to 11-9. The teams traded points to 17-14 prior to BLC winning five in a row to take a 19-17 lead. Kaylin Plautz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) kill,
Hailey Atwood (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) ace and BLC error.
UWS took a 10-4 lead in the third set on an Atwood kill. Bethany Lutheran rallied to cut the lead to 12-11 with a Paloma Garcia De Fuentes ace. UWS, though, scored the next five and eight of 10 points to push the lead to 20-13. Kills by Plautz, Teff and Pryd made it 23-19 and the Yellowjackets sealed the match four points later with a Stark swing.
Rilee Hohbein and Riley Sammon paced BLC with seven kills apiece in the loss.
UWS is back in action Friday hosting North Central on Senior Day att Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
