SUPERIOR, Wis. --Â The UW-Superior women's basketball team won its 19th consecutive game against bridge rival St. Scholastica on Tuesday, taking a 71-47 decision at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets moved to 2-0 on the young season, scoring the game's first 13 points and never trailing in the contest. Three players tallied double-figure points and three more scored eight apiece in a game in which all 15 healthy players saw playing time.

Senior
Kaelyn Christian (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) led all players with 16 points and three steals, while junior
Bryton Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore
Chloe Peterson (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) added 10 of her own off the bench. UWS shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, connecting on 14-of-28 attempts and finished the night at 44.4 percent.

Four players scored in the 13-point start with Christian pouring in six, including a 3-pointer off of an
Erika Mattson (Ely, Minn./Ely Memorial) steal at the 6:52 mark that made it 11-0. Sophomore
Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek) capped the stretch with a jumper in the paint, forcing a timeout from St. Scholastica (0-2).

A Christian steal and jumper followed by a 3-pointer, assisted by
Allie Zimmer (Waconia, Minn./Waconia), pushed the Superior advantage to 20-4 with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter. UWS led, 24-10, after one period, 43-22 at halftime and 59-38 after three.

The 'Jackets forced 27 St. Scholastica turnovers for 29 points and limited the Saints to 23.4 percent from the floor on 11-of-47 shooting.

Senior
Mady Sanders (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) ripped down a game-best 11 boards as UWS collected 35 in total. Sanders just missed a double-double, scoring eight points. Besonen and Mattson also scored eight each.

Katie Vaske led the Saints with 14 points. Megan Hurley also chipped in with eight points and nine boards for the visitors.
