ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The UW-Superior women's basketball team shot nearly 54 percent from the field, leading from start to finish, as it closed the regular season with a 69-47 victory over Crown at the Wild Athletic Center on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets hit on 30 of their 56 attempts from the floor and saw seven players score at least five points apiece. Junior
Kaelyn Christian (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) paced the UWS offense with 16 points – including 13 in the first half – on 7-for-11 shooting off the bench.
With the win, Superior (6-18, 5-9 UMAC) earned the No. 5 seed in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament and will play at fourth-seeded Minnesota Morris Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The 'Jackets dominated inside, scoring 48 points in the paint, while also controlling the boards by a 36-27 margin. UWS also shared the ball well with 21 assists as a team.
UWS led, 20-9, after the first quarter and was up, 39-26, at the halftime break. Superior led by 15 at 50-35 entering the fourth quarter.
Senior
Brianna O'Donnell (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds while junior
Mady Sanders (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored 8 points and collected a team-best six boards. Junior
Kaija Davies (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) contributed seven points in 12 minutes. The UWS reserves scored 41 points on the day.
Superior led by as many as 22 with six minutes remaining in the contest when O'Donnell connected on the second of two free throws making for a 59-37 advantage.
UWS limited Crown to just 27.4 percent shooting as the Storm made 17-of-62 from the field.
