NEW ULM, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's golf team closed its spring season Thursday at the Knights Invitational, hosted by Martin Luther at New Ulm Country Club.
The Yellowjackets were second overall, shooting 36-over-par 316 on the 6,144-yard par-70 course. UWS was jus three strokes off the pace as Bethany Lutheran took the team title. Freshman
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing), part of Superior's second team in the event, was the 'Jackets' top finisher at 7-over-par 77 to tie for third place. Willard paced the second team to a third-place finish at 41-over 321, five behind the UWS first team.
Freshman
Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) shot 78 to lead the top team, tying for fifth overall. Freshman
Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) and sophomore
T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) tied for eighth with rounds of 79. Sophomore
Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) tied for 12th with an 80.
Junior
Charles Martin (Blainville, Quebec/École internationale Lucille-Teasdale) tied for 14th with 81 with freshmen
Trey Shaw (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) and
Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior). Senior
Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) posted 82 to tie for 19th place.
Myles Hektor (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) tied for 22nd with 86 and
Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) was 26th with 88.
Northwestern's Max Wilcox won the individual title, firing a 4-over-par 74 to beat Noah Fick of Bethany Lutheran by one stroke.
The tournament closed the 2021-22 season for the Yellowjackets, who posted the fourth best four-player season scoring average in program history at 321 strokes.
