DULUTH, Minn. --Â The UW-Superior volleyball team split a tri-match with Carleton and St. Scholastica on Saturday at Reif Gymnasium, topping the Knights, 3-2, before falling to the Saints, 3-0.

Against Carleton, the Yellowjackets won, 27-25, 18-25, 16-25, 25-21 and 15-8 to improve to 1-2 in five-set matches on the season. St. Scholastica won, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-22 in the nightcap moving Superior's overall record to 4-7 on the year.

Alexie Pryd (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove Senior) registered a match-high 14 kills while classmate
Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley) tallied 17 assists and 10 digs for a double-double versus the Knights. Sophomore
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) added a match-best 20 digs and freshman
Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) had a team-best 18 assists to help UWS earn its second consecutive victory over a MIAC opponent, after beating Hamline at home Wednesday.

Down, 2-1, and 11-10 in the fourth set, the Yellowjackets engineered a 9-0 run which featured four kills and two blocks to give Superior a commanding 19-11 lead in the set. The Knights later fought off four set points only to see UWS tie the match on a Grace Malooly service error.

Carleton (1-6) rattled off three of the first four points in the deciding fifth set. With the set tied at 3-3, UWS recorded four of the next five points for a 7-4 advantage. The Knights later pulled to within 8-7, but UWS scored seven of the final eight points to seal the victory, using kills from
Marena Saeger (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and Plautz along with a service ace by
Mathea Leiskau (Osceola, Wis./Osceola) and Carleton error.

Carleton, which put three players in double-figure kills -- Annalise Sokolow (13), Kerrigan Candra (10) and JancynAppel (10) -- outhit the Yellowjackets, .143-.115, for the match. Candra added 15 digs for a double-double and Isabel Macia had 41 assists, directing the Knights' offense.

Plautz led the 'Jackets with nine kills and a team-high-tying three blocks against the Saints. Anderson had 18 digs, Teff 14 assists and
Hailey Atwood (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) collected three of the team's match-leading six service aces.Â

St. Scholastica hit .176 for the match with 44 kills and 20 errors. Jessica Remer totaled 19 kills and Katie Brostrom had 37 assists as the Saints improved to 7-1 on he season.

The Yellowjackets next travel to Northland to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Tuesday. First serve at Kendrigan Gymnasium is set for 7 p.m.
