MANKATO, Minn. -- Freshman
Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) scored the game winner with just 6:09 remaining to lift the UW-Superior women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran at Scheels Field in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action on Friday.
On the goal, Hill gathered the ball inside the 18-yard box off of a sophomore Mya Holquist cross, turned and fired a shot along the turf and past Bethany Lutheran goalkeeper Brooke Wolanin.
Hill's second goal of the season broke a 2-2 deadlock that BLC's Mia Salter created 2:42 earlier when a long Vikings' free kick bounced in the penalty area and settled to Saulter. Her shot beat UWS sophomore goalie
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) low into the right corner.
The Yellowjackets opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Holmquist's header beat Wolanin. after junior
Lindrey Schendel's (Firestone, Colo./Skyline) cross from the near flank.
Allison Alessi (Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake) took the short corner that started the play, giving UWS a 1-0 lead.
Superior doubled the lead in the 16th minute as Holmquist scored her second of the day, finishing a low shot into the side netting with assists from Alessi and Wilson.
Bethany Lutheran (2-3-1, 1-1-0 UMAC) got on the scoreboard in the 40th minute through Elena Luján Rubio, whose long, lofted shot from outside the box eluded the outstretched arm of Lang, landing in the back of the net. Juana Quevedo assisted on Rubio's fourth goal of the season.
Lang (2-2-1) earned the win, making two saves while Wolanin fell to 2-3-0 on the year, stopping seven shots.
