COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --Â The UW-Superior volleyball team dropped both of its matches on the second day of the Pikes Peak Challenge, falling 3-2 to Hardin-Simmons in the first match of the day Saturday and 3-1 to John Carroll in the second.

Hardin-Simmons (3-0) won by set scores of 25-14, 20-25, 22-25, 25-23 and 20-18. John Carroll (2-2) won by a 30-28, 25-27, 25-19 and 25-18 count. The Yellowjackets, who finish the weekend 1-3 overall, were held to a .170 attack percentage in the two matches.

Against the Cowgirls, UWS had four players with double-figure kills, led by 17 from sophomore
Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown). She hit .484, adding a block and three digs. Junior
Kaylin Plautz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and senior
Alexie Pryd (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove Senior) tallied 13 kills each, while senior
Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley) put down 11 to go with 20 assists and 10 digs for her first triple-double of the season.

Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) added a match-high 15 digs and senior
Hailey Atwood (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) contributed 14. Teff and freshman
Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) chipped in with two service aces apiece.

After dropping the first set, UWS rallied to win the second and third to take the lead in the match, hitting .368 and .395 as a team in those sets. With the match knotted at 2-all, Superior bolted to a 9-5 advantage in the deciding fifth set with the help of 5-1 run, punctuated by a Stark kill.

Hardin-Simmons pulled even at 10-10 on a block and took the lead on a pair of kills and an UWS error to go up, 13-10. The 'Jackets responded with the next three points to tie on a block by Plautz and Teff. Superior then took a 17-16 edge, but HSU won four of the last five points to close the match.

John Carroll and UWS traded set wins in extra points in the first two of that match. The Blue Streaks swung at a .340 clip in the third set to earn a six-point win and finished it off with 11 kills in 34 attempts in the fourth while holding UWS to -.125 on attack.

Pryd led UWS with 20 kills in the nightcap, and Teff had 19 assists and 14 digs. Atwood recorded a match-best 23 digs.

The Yellowjackets return home to host the 2022 Subway Stinger Classic Friday and Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium. UWS will play Northland (5 p.m.) and Nebraska Wesleyan (7 p.m.) the first day and Macalester (10 a.m.) and St. Scholastica (2 p.m.) the second.
