SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's basketball team shot nearly 60 percent from the field and had four players score double figures to defeat Northland, 79-62, Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.

The Yellowjackets improved to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the league with their third consecutive victory, while shooting 65.3 percent in the first half. Overall, Superior was 31-of-52 from 59.6 percent.

J'Vaun Walker (Rosharon, Texas/Manvel) poured in a game-high 17 points on 8-for-10 from the floor as sophomore
Reid Johnson (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) tallied 14, senior Josef Fahrerenholtz 13 and junior
Levy Miguel (Luanda, Angola/Canarias Basketball Academy) 10 off the bench. Fahrenholtz led all players with eight rebounds.

UWS never trailed on the day, opening a 44-30 advantage at halftime. Northland (3-11, 1-2 UMAC) was competitive in the first half on the strength of 54 percent shooting itself to keep it close until Superior closed the period with a 20-9 run over the final five-and-a-half minutes. UWS went 6-for-7 from the floor in the stretch and received scoring contributions from seven different players, led by sophomore
Andrew Kunelius (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia) with five points.

Levy Miguel (Luanda, Angola/Canarias Basketball Academy) scored five straight points early in the second half, giving his team a 55-35 lead on a dunk in transition off of a
Ty Melchert (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) steal with 15:47 to play. The lead grew to 24 at 63-39 on a free by
Ethan Rens (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) with less than 12 minutes remaining.

The LumberJacks could not get closer than 17 the rest of the way as they dropped their fifth straight game. Drew Lindberg scored 12 points and Ryan Rawlings registered 10 for Northland, which committed 21 turnovers, giving UWS 21 points.
