SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's basketball team cruised to a 72-38 victory over Northland at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets improved to 5-6 overall, staying perfect in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference at 3-0, with the victory. The Yellowjackets placed four players in double-figure scoring to pick up their 21st consecutive victory over the LumberJills (5-6, 1-2 UMAC).

Superior led wire-to-wire, scoring the game's first seven points. UWS caused 24 turnovers and held Northland to 21.8 percent shooting on a day that saw 10 of the 13 players who saw action score.

Senior
Kaelyn Christian (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) and junior
Sam Parendo (Proctor, Minn./Proctor) each tallied a team-leading 12 points, with Parendo's contributions, which also included two rebounds, coming in 16 minutes off the bench. Christian recorded four boards two assists and three steals.

Bryton Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while sophomore
Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek) chipped in 10 points, five boards, two assists and one steal. Sophomore
Katie Dobson (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) added eight points, two rebounds, two assists and two blocks, as well.

Superior limited the LumberJills to eight points in both the first and fourth quarters on the way remaining tied atop the UMAC standings with Northwestern.

The 'Jackets shot 42.9 percent from the field, connecting on 25-of-59 attempts, and 44.4 from 3-point range, hitting eight of their 18 tries, and never let Northland gain its footing. Miranda Wagner, though, paced the 'Jills with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds as Northland snapped a modest two-game winning streak with the loss.

The Yellowjackets return to the court Friday when they travel to Crown for a 7:15 p.m., tip-off in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
