BUFFALO LAKE, Minn. – The story of the 2023-24 season for the Yellowjacket women's golf team has been one of improvement. A young team, the Yellowjackets and competed, overcoming obstacles along the way.
One constant of the season, however, has been the emergence of
Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti). The freshman, who is also a member of the Yellowjacket women's hockey team, has consistently been the low shooter for the Yellowjackets this fall, and Saturday was no exception.
Parnell turned in another solid round of golf, helping the Yellowjackets to a third place finish in the Martin Luther Invitational Saturday at Oakdale Golf Club.
The Yellowjackets finished with a team score of 374. The University of Northwestern took home the team title Saturday, coming in with a score of 334, putting them comfortably ahead of second-place Crown, which posted a score of 355.
Parnell was once again the leader on the course for the Yellowjackets, finishing the round with an 11-over 83, tying her for third place. Parnell was in the thick of things Saturday, finishing just three strokes off the pace, showing she'll be in the mix at the upcoming Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championships.
Not far off the pace Saturday was
Olivia Weyenberg (Stacy, Minn./North Branch Area). The freshman fired a 17-over 89, putting her in the top ten of the event, where she placed ninth.
Karin Hill (Duluth, Minn/Denfeld) finished the round in 16th place, carding a 95, putting her third among Yellowjacket finishers.
Kenzie Tuura (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern), who is returning to the course after fighting through an injury earlier in the season, carded a 107, tying her for 21st place. Rounding things out for the Yellowjackets was
Annika Patrick (), who finished 27th after shooting a 110.
The Yellowjackets will now prepare to close the fall portion of their season at the 2023 UMAC Championships. The three-day event begins play Thursday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. The championships will be played at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minn.
