MANKATO, Minn. –The UW-Superior men's soccer team traveled to Mankato, Minn. to take on Bethany Lutheran Saturday, looking to avenge its only Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss of the 2023 season, and in the process regain sole possession of first place in the conference.
The Yellowjackets (11-2-2, 9-1 UMAC) would take down Bethany Lutheran 2-0 with two second half goals extending their win streak to seven. The Yellowjackets have not lost since falling to Bethany Lutheran at home Sept. 24.
With no scoring in the first half, the Yellowjackets would come out quick early in the second half. In the 46th minute,
Jake Kidd (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would shoot a high left shot and score the first goal of the match and his 12th of the season, giving the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead. The assists would be credited to
Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) and
Zach Tiemeyer (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee Community).
In the 75th minute, Thomas would net one of his own off of a low center shot advancing the Yellowjackets lead to 2-0.
Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) would be credited with assist.
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) would get the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and would net his sixth shutout of the season after making all fives saves the Vikings sent his way.
The Yellowjackets are back in action at home Tuesday, Oct. 17 with a non-conference match against Macalester. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
