SUPERIOR, Wis. – The dawn of a new hockey season at UW-Superior is approaching, and once again Yellowjacket Athletics will partner locally to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.
 
For years, Yellowjacket Athletics and Superior Beverages, LLC partnered on the endeavor. Bill's Distributing purchased Superior Beverages this year, but the tradition will continue with the new ownership.
 
The 2023-24 season will mark the eighth consecutive season of the partnership, and for every goal the Yellowjacket men's and women's hockey teams score at home, Bill's Distributing will donate $20 to Folds of Honor, with a maximum of $2,000 for the year.
 
"When we found out about the sale of our longtime partner in the summer of 2023, one of the first things we talked about with the new company was keeping this aspect of our partnership in place," said Jon Garver, director of athletic communications at UW-Superior. "As a campus we take a lot of pride in being annually recognized among the most military-friendly universities in the United States, and our ability to work with corporate partners to benefit groups like Folds of Honor plays a part in that.
 
"Further, I know our student-athletes on the hockey teams enjoy having that goal and work relentlessly to try and hit that $2,000 mark every year."
 
To date, the two teams have scored enough goals to raise nearly $10,000 for the Folds of Honor Foundation.
 
The Yellowjacket women's hockey team will open its home season Friday, when it hosts Lawrence at Wessman Arena. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. The Yellowjacket men will open at home Friday, November 10 when they host Bethel for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
