SUPERIOR, Wis.-- The Yellowjacket women's hockey team fell short Saturday afternoon at Wessman Arena as they completed the weekend series with St. Olaf College.
Early in the first period, the Yellowjackets would take their first penalty of the day to give St. Olaf their first power play of the game. Just two minutes into the game, Makenna Beaver would get a lucky bounce off a redirected pass that would find the back of the net. Grace Lankas credited with the assist to give the Oles a 1-0 lead.
Halfway through the first period, in the 10th minute,
Cora Coz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) would pick the pass off from St. Olaf to create the opportunity for herself. Entering into the zone down the left side she would put the puck into the top right corner, netting her fifth goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.
With a quick jump into the second period, in the first minute,
Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) would pick the pass from the St. Olaf defense, creating an odd man rush for herself where she would fire a shot to the top right corner of the net, giving the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead.
In the 11th minute of the second period, off the face off in the Yellowjackets' zone,
Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) would block the shot from the St. Olaf defense, giving her a fast break down the ice where she would also find the top right corner of the net to give the Yellowjackets a 3-1 lead to end the second period.
Two minutes into the third period, St. Olaf would find themselves on the power play again, and Julia Larson would net her first of the night and Solvei Berg-Messerole would be credited with her first assist of the day, closing the gap to a 3-2 game.
In the 13th minute, Larson again would find the back of the net, with an assist from Berg-Messerole to tie the game 3-3.
With just three minutes remaining in the game, Larson would net the hat trick with an unassisted power play goal, putting the Oles up 4-3.
Senior
