4/15/2023 9:43:00 PM

WAUKESHA, Wis. – For the first time in half a year, the Yellowjacket men's golf team hit the course Friday, placing 15th at Lake Forest College. A day after knocking off the rust, the Yellowjackets were back at it, competing Saturday at the WLC Spring Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College, at Morningstar Golfer's Club in Waukesha.

And it's safe to say the Yellowjackets were a little better on their second day back.

The 'Jackets shot a combined score of 306 Saturday, placing them sixth in the 13-team field, two strokes shy of Benedictine for a top-five finish.

Friday's host, Lake Forest College, fired the low score of the day, winning the event with a one-over par 289. They were five strokes ahead of second-place Carthage and Bryant and Stratton Community College. Edgewood College rounded out the top five, shooting an eight over 296.

Leading the way for the Yellowjackets Saturday was the duo of Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) and Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior). Burke was tied for the lowest score among Yellowjackets at Lake Forest Friday, and he turned the trick again Saturday, tying with Burger with a three-over 75. Burke carded four birdies on the day, hitting two on each of the front and back nines. Burger had five birdies on the day, potting thee on the back nine. Both Burke and Burger birdied the par-five 18th hole.

Burke and Burger were among four players tied for 18th place.

Right behind Burke and Burger was Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin), who finished in a tie for 22nd, finishing the day with a four-over 76. Bundy played a steady, consistent round, but only carded one birdie on the day.

Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) was fourth among Yellowjackets Saturday, carding an eight-over 80, tying him for 40th place. T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) finished the day in 54th place, coming in with a 12-over 84. Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) finished in a tie for 63rd after coming in with a plus-16 score of 88.

The medalist for the event was Jake Schroeckenthaler of Edgewood College, who fired an impressive six-under 66, to win the day by one stroke.

Next up for the Yellowjackets as they continue their tune-up for the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships is the two-day Bobby Krig Invite, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College April 22-23.
