SUPERIOR, Wis. – Yellowjacket Athletics, along with the other seven member institutions of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), are competing in a UMAC Food Drive Challenge. The event has been put together by the UMAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Â
The conference-wide service project aims to create a positive contest amongst member institutions who are each collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries that will ultimately be provided to a partner organization in the local community of each campus.
Â
The UMAC has established four reporting dates for each campus to indicate their collected numbers. These reporting dates will serve as the First Quarter, Second Quarter, Third Quarter and Final Score. The UMAC will provide formal updates, or a conference scoreboard Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20.
Â
UW-Superior is using the theme "How Much Food is a Ton of Food?" At all home games between now and Feb. 19, Yellowjacket Athletics is collecting non-perishable food items at the gate, with the goal to bring in 2,000 pounds of food. Fans coming to Yellowjacket games during this time can enter their names into a drawing for a Yellowjacket prize package in exchange for the food donation. Fans can enter their names at each game where they make a donation.
Â
Yellowjacket Athletics will provide regular updates on the amount of food it has collected as part of the challenge. All items donated will be given to the UW-Superior Campus Food Pantry.
Â
UW-Superior will announce the winner of its prize package Monday, Feb. 19.
Â
The winning institution will be announced and recognized with promotional efforts in the final update on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. In addition, the campus SAAC group of the winning institution will receive a $500 donation from the conference to be utilized for other campus SAAC events, projects and initiatives.
