Match Notes
- UW-Superior jumped out in front early by a score of 8-3. Sydney Smith (Milltown, Wis./Unity) got the party started with a kill, who was followed by Addy Gangl (Nashwauk, Minn./Nashwauk-Keewatin) and Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown).
- The Vikings began to gain ground with Yellowjacket attack errors, but the Yellowjackets garnered three-straight points from Stark and Gangl, boosting to a 15-9 advantage.
- BLC came within three at 17-14 before three consecutive attack errors from the Vikings stymied their rally. They would gain four points to be up 21-19, but Ayla Oltmanns (Gilbert, Minn./Duluth East) and Smith marked kills before Bethany Lutheran grabbed two points. The first set wrapped up after a kill from Addy Gangl (Nashwauk, Minn./Nashwauk-Keewatin), who took a feed from Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) to earn a 25-22 set victory.
- Set number two saw UWS fall 7-5 in the opening minutes. Bethany Lutheran gave up three-of-four points to allow the Yellowjackets to take the lead before UWS gave back two, sitting at 9-9.
- Teams traded the lead and points until the 'Jackets grabbed five consecutive points, leading 19-14. From there the Yellowjackets rolled, seeing kills from Gangl, Stark, Smith and Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford), winning 25-17.
- The third set saw UW-Superior score the first three points from Hohbein, Oltmanns and Smith. From there the lead wouldn't leave the Yellowjackets, as a combination of Viking miscues and Yellowjacket kills saw a 13-7 lead. Gangl, Smith and Hohbein led the offensive attack, with Gabi Schwirtz (Plato, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) dishing assists to her fellow teammates, who sat at a 19-12 advantage.
- The 'Jackets continued to roll late in the set, but Bethany Lutheran wasn't done quite yet. Three kills and a pair of consecutive service aces saw BLC crawl back 23-20, but Oltmanns and Stark issued the final blows of the match, giving UWS its fifth 3-0 victory in conference play.
- Gangl and Smith finished with double-digit kills Friday, picking up 12 and 10, respectively.
- Claude ended the evening with 25 assists, while Schwirtz added 14.
- Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) scooped 24 digs on the evening, once again leading the Yellowjackets' defensive efforts. She currently sits at 2,158 total digs throughout her collegiate career.
