BECKER, Minn. – The second day of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) golf championship arrived Friday. Round one of the three-day tournament saw the Yellowjacket men's golf team in a tie of second place after firing a collective 325. Entering Friday tied with Northwestern, the Yellowjackets jumped to first place after shooting a team score of 322, now tied with North Central.
Finishing the day in third was Northwestern, who sits with a two-day total of 652. The Eagles are closely followed by Bethany Lutheran, who sits in fourth with a collective 653. Crown and Martin Luther hold fifth and sixth place with 667 and 669 strokes, respectively, while Minnesota Morris and Northland round out the conference.
Round Two Notes
- The individual leaderboard sees a three-way tie for the top spot, which includes senior Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing). He fired three birdies on the day, two of which coming on the front nine, on his way to securing a three-over 75.
- Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) sits in seventh place on the player standings, shooting nine-over par for a round two score of 81.
- Matthew Unger (New Richmond, Wis./New Richmond) and August Lang (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) ended Friday's round shooting 83's. Unger eagled the par-five second hole, while Lang birdied the par-four third and the par-three 12th.
- Rounding out the Yellowjackets was Andrew Rude (Superior, Wis./Superior), who shot a 40/44 split to earn a 12-over 84.
- Northwestern's Carson Mersberger and Bethany Lutheran's Keaton Ginter serve as the other two top golfers atop the individual standings.
- All five Yellowjacket entries placed within the top 20.
The third and final day of the UMAC Championship is set for Saturday. Tee times at Pebble Creek commence at 11 a.m.
