Four-Goal Third Period Gives Yellowjackets 8-5 Win

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Less than 24 hours ago, the Yellowjacket women's hockey team ushered in the Bre Simon era with a tough 3-1 loss at Lake Forest. Despite owning the edge in shots on goal, goals, and quality scoring chances were hard to come by.

But that was Friday.

Saturday afternoon, goals and offense came early and often for the Yellowjackets, who broke a 4-4 tie with four third period goals on the way to giving Simon her first win as head coach, 8-5 over Lake Forest College at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Yellowjackets (1-1-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) trailed by two goals twice in the game and were down early in the third period before scoring four straight goals over a span of 10:33 to earn the victory.

Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) paced the Yellowjacket offense, scoring twice, including the game-winning goal with 11 minutes to play in the third period. Gaby Andreacchi (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Patrick) and Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) also had big days, each collecting a goal and two assists.

Transfer Anna Maulson (Lac du Flambeau, Wis./Lakeland Union) got the start in goal and got the win, finishing the day with 23 saves.
