Yellowjacket Week of Giving Coming December 2-8

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced the schedule for the 2024 Yellowjacket Wee of Giving. Now in its ninth year, the Yellowjacket Week of Giving is a week where UW-Superior student-athletes, coaches and support staff dedicate time to an array of projects benefiting the community.

"Serving our community is a proud tradition of UW-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics, and we are excited to be nearing our annual Yellowjacket Week of Giving," UW-Superior director of athletics Nick Bursik said. "The week encompasses many impactful events and is always a favorite for our student-athletes and staff."

The headlining event of the week will once again be the popular Caroling for Cans Food Drive. Dating back to 2011, Caroling for Cans gives Yellowjacket student-athletes the chance to go out into various neighborhoods around Superior, go door-to-door and sing carols in exchange for non-perishable food items. The collection is then donated to the food pantry on the UW-Superior campus.

Caroling for Cans will take place Monday, Dec. 2., and residents should be on the look out for a door hanger in the coming days, announcing the arrival of the carolers.

During its history, Caroling for Cans has yielded in excess of 10,000 pounds of food to help those in need.

Other activities during the Yellowjacket Week of Giving will include gift wrapping to benefit the families on the UW-Superior Giving Tree through the Veteran and Non-Traditional Student Center (VNSC), the presentation of appreciation cards to faculty and staff on campus and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.

Yellowjacket Athletics will also be collecting toys at its men's hockey game Dec. 7 to benefit the Toys for Tots drive through the Superior Fire Department. Fans coming to the game are encouraged to bring a new, unopened toy that can be donated for the drive. Toy donations will also be accepted at the UW-Superior Athletics Office, located on the second floor of the Marcovich Wellness Center.

"We are so grateful to have the support of our community and hope this year's Yellowjacket Week of Giving can help those in need as we approach the holiday season," Bursik said. "We encourage our fans and community to get involved and help us make a positive impact."
