ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Following Friday's game against the Cougars where the Yellowjacket women's basketball team clinched the first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) tournament berth, the 'Jackets returned to action against the Polars of Crown College. The Yellowjackets continue to find ways to win, as they rolled past the Polars 71-53.
Crown was able tie the game twice in the first quarter, but a jumper from
Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) would lift the 'Jackets to a two-point lead at 11-9 and would never trail in the rest of the contest.
Game Notes
- Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek) led the offensive output, finishing with 18 points. She drained four shots from downtown and was six-for-nine from the field.
- Erika Mattson (Ely, Minn./Ely Memorial) pieced together a strong game, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds.
- Both Katie Dobson (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) and Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) finished with six boards and two blocks. Dobson pickpocketed the Polars on three separate occasions during the game.
- The 'Jackets and Polars both scored 13 points courtesy of bench players.
- UWS finished 51.9 percent from midrange, while limiting Crown to 46.15.
- Mya Morris and Sydney Cotten led the Polars with 17 and 10 points, respectively.
- The Yellowjackets scored 26 of their points in the paint while finishing 13 second chance points.
The Yellowjackets have one final weekend of regular season games prior to the UMAC Tournament. Their first game will take place Friday against Martin Luther. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Luther Student Center.
