Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis.— The Yellowjacket women's hockey team was back at home on Saturday as they faced UW-Stevens Point in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (WIAC) play.
Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) for the Yellowjackets would net the game winning goal in overtime to secure a 3-2 over the Pointers to sweep the weekend.
Game Notes
- After a scoreless first period, Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) would score a power play goal for the Yellowjackets to open the scoring.
- Cora Coz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Brynn MacLean (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) would be credited with the assists on Hoops' goal.
- Garner would find the back of the net late in the third period to tie the game up and send it into overtime.
- Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) was credited with the assist on Garner's goal.
- 35 seconds into overtime, Lucy Drougas (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would find Garner up the ice where Garner would score the game winning goal.
- Stevens Point would get on the board first with a power play goal six minutes into the second period.
- The Pointers would get their second goal of the night in the 18th minute of the second period.
- The Yellowjackets goaltender Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) would net a total of 26 saves.
- Stevens Point goaltender Emily Griege would net a total of 33 saves.
The Yellowjackets improve to 6-16-1, 3-6-1 (WIAC) and will continue in WIAC play next weekend for a home series against Northland College. The Yellowjackets will be home Friday, Feb. 16 for a 7 p.m. puck drop and Saturday, Feb.17 is set for a 2 p.m. faceoff at Wessman Arena.
