OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Superior softball team opened its season Saturday morning at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome with a double header. The Yellowjackets first saw UW-Oshkosh followed by Beloit College.
The Yellowjackets went head-to-head with both of their opponents but would fall short in both games. Oshkosh took the first game 5-1 and Beloit would claim the second 4-3.
Game One Notes
- Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) was walked advancing Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior) to second, MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) to third and sent Thomson home to tie the game up 1-1.
- Thomson would be the sole Yellowjacket to come across the plate in this matchup.
- Thomson and Leccia would both be credited with doubles.
- Emma Pillion (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) pitched all seven innings.
Game Two Notes
- The Yellowjackets would score two runs in the second inning putting them up 2-0.
- Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) tripled to right center allowing Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)) and Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter) to score.
- In the third inning, Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) would steal second and Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) would steal home.
- Beloit would score their runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
- Garley would pitch 1.1 innings and Swartz would come in and pitch the remainder of the same.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Sunday, March 3 for the second day of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. They will play Edgewood at 10 a.m. and Ripon in the second game at 12 p.m.
