ASUBRY, Iowa – The Yellowjacket women's golf team closed out its first tournament of the spring Monday, wrapping up the two-day Duhawk Spring Invitational, hosted by Loras College, shooting a tournament score of 782, placing sixth among the eight entrants.
The Yellowjackets shaved a dozen strokes off their score from Sunday, carding a team score of 385 Monday.
The University of Dubuque 'A' team won the event with a two-round score of 663. The group was 34 strokes clear of the University of Dubuque 'B' team, the runner-up with a 697. St. Ambrose University rounded out the top three with a score of 701.
Dubuque's Brooke Bunjes was the tournament medalist, following up Sunday's 78 with a Monday score of 80 to shoot 158. She topped runner up Morgan Hawkins, also of Dubuque, by three strokes for the win.
Once again, the Yellowjackets were paced by
Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti). The sophomore, who shot the team's lowest score of 90 Sunday, carded a 92 for a tournament score of 182. She was two strokes ahead of
Olivia Weyenberg (Stacy, Minn./North Branch Area), who shot 94 Monday for a tournament total of 190.
Kenzie Tuura (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) trimmed three strokes off her score Monday, shooting a 100 for a tournament mark of 203. The big move of the day, however, was freshman
Karin Hill (Duluth, Minn/Denfeld). Hill knocked nine strokes off her score from Sunday, carding a 99 for a two-day score of 207.
Meet Notes
- Parnell would have put together a lower score and vaulted up the leaderboard if not for a stretch on the back nine where she carded four-straight double bogeys. She closed strong, however, parring the final three holes on the back nine.
- Tuura also had a strong finish Monday, shooting 11 over on the back after firing a plus-17 on the front nine.
- Mid round, Weyenberg had a stretch where she parred four-of-six holes.
- Hill carded three pars Monday, but still had the biggest improvement among all four Yellowjackets on the course.
The Yellowjackets will be back in action Thursday, April 25 when they compete in the MLC Spring Invitational, hosted by Martin Luther College, at the New Ulm Country Club in New Ulm, Minn. Tee times begin at 10 a.m.
