Women’s Basketball Sees Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket women's basketball team saw four players recognized on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Basketball Lists, as the organization announced their award winners.

The junior trio of Elise Besonen (Ewen, Mich./Ewen-Trout Creek), Katie Dobson (Black River Falls, Wis./Black River Falls) and Hannah Hause (Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) were honored, along with sophomore Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park).

To be selected, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and either be a starter or key contributor on their respective team.

The CSC Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic accomplishments, separately recognizing men's and women's basketball student-athletes in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and the NAIA.

Besonen, a Music Education major who holds a perfect 4.0 GPA, was heavily relied on in the 2023-24 campaign. Starting in all 27 games, she played a full 40 minutes on 13 separate occasions. Besonen averaged 14.8 points-per-game while seeing 976 minutes on the hardwood, leading the Yellowjackets in both categories. Not only did she secure 52 three pointers, but she also capped her junior season with a 90.6 free-throw percentage, sitting fourth in NCAA Division III. Additionally, Besonen was tabbed player of the year in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and selected to the All-UMAC First Team.

Dobson is an Exercise Science major that maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA. Starting in all 27 games, she compiled 646 minutes on the hardwood, averaging 23.9 per game. Dobson drained 57 field goals and 22 three pointers, finishing with percentages of 35.8 and 30.6, respectively. From the line, she tallied 22-of-27 free throws for an 81.5 percentage. Dobson finished fourth on the team in assists (34), fifth in steals (22) and total points (158). She also received recognition from the UMAC, serving as the Yellowjackets' representative on the sportsmanship team.

After dealing with injury in her first two campaigns, Hause enjoyed a full season in her junior year. An Elementary Education major with a 3.95 GPA, she played in all 27 games, seeing 279 minutes on the hardwood. She carried a 41.7 field goal percentage while carrying an 86.7 percentage from the free throw line. Defensively she grabbed 53 rebounds while stealing six and blocking five.

Olson, who holds a 3.97 GPA as an Exercise Science major, played in all 27 games in her sophomore season. Compiling 521 minutes on the year, she converted on 43 chances from the field. Olson drained 15 from beyond the arc while going 32-for-46 at the line. Defensively she totaled 40 rebounds, two blocks and 16 steals.

The Yellowjackets ended 2023-24 in the UMAC Championship game, finishing with an overall record of 18-9 and a 13-1 mark in conference action under second-year head coach Emily Carpenter.
