Yellowjackets Score Two Dozen in Sweep of Martin Luther

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket softball team's series with Martin Luther got underway Tuesday, which in itself was noteworthy. The Yellowjackets and Knights had to reschedule their series three times due to weather, and Tuesday finally gave the teams conditions favorable enough for play.

The Yellowjackets put 11 runs on the board to win Tuesday, and Wednesday the offense was even better.

On the strength of big innings, the Yellowjackets put a dozen runs on the board in both games Wednesday, defeating Martin Luther 12-0 in the first game before closing out the doubleheader sweep with a 12-1 win at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The wins pushed the Yellowjackets to 20-10 overall and 9-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). It also marked the fourth time in four seasons that head coach Melissa Fracker has guided the Yellowjackets to 20-plus wins.

Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) followed up a strong performance Tuesday with another monster day. The sophomore went 3-for-4 at the plate while scoring four runs and driving in three in the two wins. She was also the winning pitcher in the second game Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits in four innings to improve to 6-2 on the year.

Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior) also had a big day on offense, going 6-for-7 with three runs scored and driving in five. Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was a perfect 5-for-5 Wednesday.
