NEW ULM, Minn. – The Yellowjacket men's golf team was back on the course Thursday, competing at the MLC Spring Invitational, hosted by Martin Luther College.
The roster looked a little different for the Yellowjackets compared to the first three meets they've played this spring. Instead of the usual five, the Yellowjackets had a different handful of players competing Thursday, and despite being the first time out for this group, the Yellowjackets had a good showing.
Led by
Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin), the Yellowjackets shot a team score of 340, placing them sixth in the 18-hole tournament at the New Ulm Country Club.
The University of Northwestern won the event, posting a team score of 309 to take first place honors. The Eagles edged North Central, who placed second with a team score of 310. Crown rounded out the top three, coming in with a score of 314.
Mason Heidgerken of Northwestern was the individual medalist, carding a two-over par 73. He was one stroke ahead of teammate Gordon Skaar and North Central's Ben Long.
Bundy whose last tournament came at last September's MLC Invitational, finished the day as the top scorer for the Yellowjackets. Bundy carded an 11-over 82, which tied him for 16th place. He was two strokes ahead of the next closest Yellowjackets.
Meet Notes
- Trevor Durfee (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) and Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) finished two strokes behind Bundy. The duo shot identical 13-over 84s, tying them for 13th place.
- For Tyman, it was the fourth-lowest score he has carded this season.
- Seth Pettingill (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) finished the round with a 19-over score of 90.
- Rounding things out for the Yellowjackets was Matt Nault (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior), who shot 96 on the day.
The Yellowjackets will be back on the course this weekend when they compete at the two-day Saint John's Spring Invitational. Tee times will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27. The first day of the tournament will be played at Wapicada Golf Club in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
