EAU CLAIRE. Wis. – After firing a combined score of 309, sitting in sixth place at the end of day one, the Yellowjacket men's golf team was back on the course Monday, for day two of the Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational.
After day one the Yellowjackets were looking for improvement on the second day of the tournament. Despite the effort they couldn't improve on Sunday's standing, but it was enough to keep them in the sixth-place position on the leaderboard. After carding a two-day score of 624 the Yellowjackets finished the tournament tied in sixth place with UW-Stout.
The Yellowjackets' team listed as UW-Superior "B" ended round one with a combined score of 334, placing them in 18th place, and would remain in 18th place at the end of round two with a combined score of 423.
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets for round two of the tournament was
Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) carding a score of five-over 76. Willard would shoot eight pars on the front nine.
Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) and Willard would lead the Yellowjackets for two-day scores of 155, finishing tied in 28th place.
Tournament Notes
- As a team, the Yellowjackets were six strokes better on Sunday than Monday.
- Andrew Rude (Superior, Wis./Superior) would shoot six-over 77, which landed him in a tie for 39th on the leaderboard. Rudes finishes with a combined two-round score of 157.
- Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) would have a strong front nine, shooting just two over. Finishing off the back nine, Bundy would card an eight-over 79 to finish the round.
- Matthew Unger would finish tied with Rude in 39th place and would end with a 10-over 81 on day two.
- Trevor Durfee (Superior, Wis./Superior) would card a 12-over 83. Durfee would tally five-over on the front nine and seven-over on the back.
- Teammates T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior), Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) and Carson Armstrong (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) would all card scores within one stroke of each other shooting 15-over 86, 16-over 87 and 17-over 88, respectively.
- Corey Boerner would finish in first place shooting just one over par for a two-day score of 143.
- Nebraska Wesleyan would come out on top with a combined two-day team score of 590. Finishing behind, tied in second place would be both UW-Eau Claire and UW-Eau Claire "B". Both would finish with scores of 592.
The Yellowjackets will be back in action next weekend, when they travel to Kansasville, Wis. For the Midwest Regional. Tee times start at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20 and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
