Kogawa, McKenna Spearhead All-WIAC Men’s Hockey Accolades

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) unveiled its postseason awards in men's hockey Tuesday afternoon, and eight members of the Yellowjackets received All-WIAC honors.
 
Leading the charge for the 'Jackets was Ikki Kogawa (Chiba, Japan/Collingwood Collegiate Institute), as he was named the Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year. Picking up his second WIAC Coach of the Year honor was Rich McKenna. Snagging first team all-conference nods were Jack Boschert (Florissant, Mo./Duchesne), Tyler Ryder (Byron Center, Mich./Northstar Christian Academy) and Reed Stark (Suffern, N.Y./Douglas County West). The trio of Justin Dauphinais (Val Caron, Ontario/École Secondaire Catholique Horizon), Blake Holmes (Apple Valley, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) and Daniel Rozsival (Chicago, Ill./North Shore Country Day) garnered honorable mention citations from the league.
 
Dusty Bergstrom (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) represented Superior on the all-sportsmanship team.
 
Kogawa saw action in 21 games during his debut season with the Yellowjackets, finishing with a +11 ranking. He compiled 19 points with seven goals and 12 assists during the 2024-25 slate. Rifling 44 shots on net, he accumulated a shooting percentage of .159 and scored a duo of power play and game-winning goals. Kogawa garnered a season-best three points on the road against Northland College, assisting on three different Yellowjacket goals to win 8-1 Dec. 14.
 
Boschert added another fine season under his belt between the pipes, leading to back-to-back All-WIAC First Team selections. As a sophomore he saw 13 games in net with a team-best 675 minutes of action. Boschert logged an overall record of 8-2-0 while garnering a save percentage of .933. He saved a total of 265 shots from the opposition, including a season-best 41 against UW-Eau Claire Jan. 31, resulting in a 4-1 Superior victory.
 
Ryder's work from the blue line this season resulted in his first All-WIAC First Team distinction. Skating in 27 games at the Yellowjacket blue line he turned in five total points with two goals and three assists. He took 47 shots on the year while blocking 30 shots, with a season-best five blocks in the opener of the 59th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament in Boston, Mass. Ryder capped his campaign with a +/- rating of 20.
 
Stark wrapped up his career at UW-Superior on a high note, skating in 25 games as a senior. His work up front resulted in a career-best and team-leading 14 goals coupled with nine assists for 23 points. Stark's 83 shots taken resulted in a .169 shooting percentage on the campaign while logging a +14 rating. He was a constant on the scoresheet this season, seeing him rank sixth in the WIAC in goals. Out of those 14 he featured six game-winning goals, featuring back-to-back nights of overtime winners in circuit play against UW-River Falls (Dec. 6) and UW-Stout (Dec. 7).
 
Dauphinais boasted his best season at UW-Superior to date this past season, skating in 27 games up front. He scored a team-second 12 goals combined with ten assists for 22 points. A shooting percentage of .182 resulted from 66 total shots, garnering a +17 rating for the year. Out of his 12 goals, six proved to be the game-winners. Dauphinais had a stretch of five games lighting the lamp, including notching two goals against UW-Eau Claire Jan. 31.
 
Holmes logged a senior season that saw him assist on 13 Superior goals. He fired 57 shots on the year while ranking second on the team with 33 blocked shots. Seeing action in 26 games, he set a plus/minus rating of 15 that sat in a logjam of third place among his teammates. During an away tilt versus UW-River Falls, Holmes logged a season-high four blocks from the blue line, keeping the Falcons at bay while Superior won in overtime.
 
Rozsival garnered a total of 13 points with six goals and seven assists as a sophomore. Appearing in 26 games he fired 41 shots on the year, logging a .146 shooting percentage. He lit the lamp on two power play occasions, along with scoring the eventual game-winner against the Falcons of UW-River Falls Jan. 25. Rozsival capped the campaign with a plus/minus rating of +10.
 
The Yellowjackets capped the 2024-25 season with an overall record of 19-5-3, coupled with a conference record of 11-2-2. Superior won the WIAC Regular Season title for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
