Yellowjackets Stay Hot in Florida, Sweep Sunday Doubleheader

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The UW-Superior softball team continued its impressive run in Florida with a pair of victories Sunday, defeating Rockford and SUNY Cobleskill at the Lee Health Complex.

The Yellowjackets, now 8-2 on the season, opened the day with a commanding 10-2 win over Rockford before cruising past SUNY Cobleskill 11-2 in the second game.

Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)) and Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) were dominant in the circle, keeping opposing offenses in check throughout the day. Garley set the tone in game one, going the distance with six strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out three. Swartz followed suit in game two, remaining unbeaten on the season with a five-inning outing in which she scattered four hits, gave up just two runs, and struck out four. Their combined efforts held opponents to just four total runs, giving the Yellowjackets' offense plenty of breathing room to secure both victories.

Game One Notes

  • Bennett sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and two stolen bases.
  • Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) collected two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base while also contributing defensively behind the plate.
  • O'Donnell drove in a game-high three runs, including a key two-run single in the fifth inning.

  • Garley earned the win and improves to 3-2 on the season in the circle.
Game Two Notes
  • UW-Superior's offense caught fire, collecting 14 hits and scoring in four of five innings.
  • Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano) had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
  • Lily Hanson (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) delivered in the clutch, driving in three runs on two hits, including a double in the fourth inning.
  • Morgan Young (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) continued her strong play, reaching base twice with two hits and scoring two runs.
  • MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) contributed a multi-hit performance, tallying two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base.
