ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A day after posting a team score of plus-63, the Yellowjacket women's golf team was back in action Sunday, competing in the second day of the Viking Women's Classic, hosted by Augustana College.
The Yellowjackets entered play Sunday sitting in sixth place, and like the majority of other teams in the field, they weren't able to move up or down the leaderboard, and finished the weekend in sixth place, firing a team score of 704.
Olivia Weyenberg (Stacy, Minn./North Branch) led the charge for the Yellowjackets Sunday. A day after shooting a 12-over 94, Weyenberg shaved nine strokes off her score, carding a team-best 83 to finish the weekend with a 177, tying her for 26th place. Weyenberg played the round without recording a birdie. She shot a 44 on the front before parring six of nine holes on the back.
She jumped up eight places with her play Sunday.
The low scorer of the weekend for the Yellowjackets was newcomer
Abby Schintz (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East). The Duluth native shot an 83 Saturday and followed that up with an 85 Sunday. Her only birdie of the day came on the front, where she birdied the par-five sixth hole. After shooting 42 on the front, Schintz shot 43 on the back. She finished the weekend in a tie for 17th place.
Meet Notes
- Playing as an individual this weekend, Karin Hill (Duluth, Minn/Denfeld) had a good round Sunday. Hill shot a 90 Saturday and then shaved three strokes off, carding an 87 Sunday to finish tied with Weyenberg with a 177 for the weekend. Sunday, Hill registered a birdie on the par-five sixth hole, her only birdie of the day. She parred four holes on the back nine.
- Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) was the third Yellowjacket to finish play for the weekend with a score of 177. She followed Saturday's 85 with a 92 Sunday, putting her in a tie for 26th place with Weyenberg and Hill.
- Allie Maschke (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) trimmed three strokes off her score from Saturday. After carding a 96 in the opening round, Maschke shot a 93 Sunday, going 44 on the front and 49 on the back.
- Rounding things out for the 'Jackets was Lydia Saxin (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), who followed Saturday's 89 with a 95 Sunday. Saxin recorded a birdie on the par-four 12th, her only birdie of the round Sunday.
- Lake Forest College won the event, finishing the weekend with a team score of 638. They bettered the runners-up, Augustana, but eight strokes.
- The only movement on the leaderboard Sunday came at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, where UW-Oshkosh moved up one slot, overtaking St. Ambrose.
- Lake Forest's Gabrielle Krebs was the individual medalist, finishing the weekend with a four-over par 148. She defeated St. Ambrose's Amara Lytle by one stroke.
The Yellowjackets will be back in action Tuesday when they take on St. Scholastica in a dual meet at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake, Wis.
