SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its weekly award winners for the week of Apr. 21-27 in an announcement Tuesday, and three Yellowjackets received plaudits.
Superior swept the golf honors as
Abby Schintz (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) were the league's golfers of the week, while
Peyton Bennett (Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg) garnered the conference's player of the week accolades.
Burke had a fine weekend at the Saint John's Spring Invitational. Friday's round at the Wapicada Golf Course saw him shoot a three-over 75, which included three-straight birdies on the front nine. Saturday's round saw him fire a 78, adding four more birdies at the Monticello Country Club.
Schintz paced the Yellowjackets over the weekend at the Viking Women's Classic, hosted by Augustana College. Her first round saw her shoot an 83 before ending her weekend with a second-round score of 85 at the Highland Springs Golf Course.
Bennett was a key contributor in Superior's series victory over Northwestern this past weekend. During the UMAC series she was 7-13 at the dish, scoring two runs and driving in four, which included her first two collegiate homers. Bennett's average now stands at .443 on the season.
The Yellowjacket golf teams are back in action today as they face St. Scholastica in match play, taking place at the Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake, Wis.
The Yellowjacket softball team also faces St. Scholastica today, as both teams begin their non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex in Superior.
