CSC Recognizes Five Yellowjackets on Softball Academic All-District List

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Five members of the Yellowjacket softball team, including seniors Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter), Baylee O'Donnell (Mendota Heights, Minn./Richfield) and Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson), alongside the sophomore duo of Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano), received a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
 
Macal studies biology and holds a 3.78 GPA. She capped her Yellowjacket career on a high note, being named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) player of the year, along with securing spots on the league's first team and all-defensive squad, now adding her second season picking up all-district distinction from the CSC. She spearheaded the offensive efforts in 2025, leading the team with an average of .462 while Superior sits near the top of national rankings in most offensive categories.
 
O'Donnell maintains a 3.55 GPA and studies exercise science. She finished her collegiate career with a .435 batting average that ranks second among her Yellowjacket teammates. Defensively she made just one error in 196 chances, serving as the team's primary first baseman. O'Donnell's work this season earned her a spot on the All-UMAC honorable mention list along with a spot on the all-defensive squad.
 
Thomson, an elementary education major that sustains a 3.81 GPA, picks up her second postseason award from CSC. She started all 43 games as a senior, adding eight doubles and a homer with 38 RBIs in the heart of Superior's lineup. Thomson added 15 walks and six sacrifice flies leading to an on-base percentage of .459. During the last regular season series, she logged the 200th hit of her collegiate career.
 
Balabon, who currently holds a 3.68 GPA studying both business marketing and accounting, ended her sophomore season starting 29-of-34 games played. In 76 at bats she clubbed 26 hits, five of which were extra base hits, for a .342 batting average. Her on-base percentage came in at .479 and she garnered a .421 slugging clip. Balabon drew 20 walks on the season and added 14 RBIs on her way to her first CSC Academic All-District selection.
 
Stuckmayer, a business marketing major that maintains a 3.61 GPA, wrapped up a sophomore season that landed her on the All-UMAC First Team. Starting 41 games she scored 35 runs, garnered 14 RBIs and collected an average of .433, adding three doubles and a triple to boost a slugging percentage of .475. Stuckmayer finished the season with a team-second 21 stolen bases while logging a .465 on-base percentage.
 
The Yellowjackets earned a share of the 2025 UMAC Softball Regular Season Championship this season. Entering the postseason tournament as the No. 2 seed, the 'Jackets dropped a pair of games to Bethany Lutheran and Northwestern.
